SANTA FE OR BUST!!!!! Let's Find a Cure!

Dear Friends and Family,

I hope this finds all of you well. On Saturday, Shawn and I met a most amazing little boy. His name is Nicholas, he is nine years old and he has T-Cell Lymphoma. He was diagnosed with this horrible disease on October 4, 1999. Over the past two years he has endured countless cycles of chemotherapy, spinal taps, pills and tests. I am thankful to say that today Nicholas is in remission and doing well. Unfortunately, without a cure, those who live with these terrible diseases and those who will be diagnosed in the future will continue to suffer. Did you know that every nine minutes someone dies of a blood related cancer. The diseases we are talking about are leukemia, lymphoma, myeloma and Hodgkin’s disease. The good news is that the survival rate for these diseases has improved greatly since 1960 and research is continuing to make new advances toward our ultimate goal of a cure.

This is where you and I come into the picture. Shawn and I have committed ourselves to ride in the Santa Fe Century Bike Ride as part of Team in Training to help raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. No, we do not need to be committed to the psych ward. But we will need your support. We will be riding in honor of Nicholas and Shawn’s grandfather, Donald Wilson. Although both of these gentlemen are in remission, the damage done to their bodies by the chemotherapy and other treatments they endured will never be reversed. All the training and hard work Shawn and I have ahead of us is nothing compared to what these two have been through and continue to go through on a daily basis.

This organization, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, helps fund the research that finds new ways for patients like Nicholas to have a better fighting chance. Without funds there could be no research. Because of this, we have also made a personal commitment to raise $3800.00 each. That’s $7,600.00! This is where we need your help. What we are asking is for each of you to make as generous a donation to this cause as you can. Whatever you can send will make a difference. Please sponsor us by making your tax-deductible donation payable to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of America and sending it to us at 2704 Bungalow Ave., Baltimore, MD 21226-1603 as soon as you can. Also, a lot of employers offer matching donations; please ask yours if they do and for the forms needed so that you can send them along with your donation.

Yours truly,

Shawn & Annessa Wilson
